Empowerment CentrES

Sambhali Trust’s Empowerment Centres are safe and welcoming community spaces for women and adolescent girls from underserved communities in Rajasthan. Many women who join the centres have had limited access to formal education, paid work or opportunities outside the home. Some left school early. Some are first-generation learners. Some carry family responsibilities from a young age.

At Sambhali, they find a place where they are treated with respect, patience and care.

Sambhali’s vocational training helps women build practical skills that can support income opportunities. After completing the course, many women continue sewing from home, take local orders, or remain connected with Sambhali’s livelihood initiatives. Where possible, graduates are linked with craft-based work, market exposure and further learning opportunities.

Alongside education and skills, the centres include regular workshops on health, hygiene, nutrition, financial literacy, digital awareness, personal safety, child care, family well-being and everyday life skills. These sessions help women manage daily challenges with more confidence and awareness.

The Empowerment Centres are also closely connected with children’s education. When mothers gain literacy, confidence and awareness, they are better able to support their children’s schooling, health and future. In this way, the centres strengthen not only individual women, but the wider family environment.

At Sambhali, they find a place where they are treated with respect, patience and care.

The centres offer basic education in Hindi, English and mathematics, along with vocational training in sewing, embroidery and other practical skills. Women learn at their own pace, beginning with simple reading, writing, counting, communication and classroom confidence. Over time, they begin to speak more openly, participate in group activities, make decisions and recognise their own abilities.

The training is not only about learning a craft. It is also about dignity, confidence and self-belief. Women are encouraged to support one another, share their experiences, and take small but meaningful steps towards greater independence.

This work is aligned with the spirit of India’s national priorities around women’s safety and empowerment, adult learning, skill development, financial literacy, digital awareness and sustainable livelihoods. It also connects with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, especially Quality Education, Gender Equality, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Good Health and Well-being, and Reduced Inequalities.

Through the Empowerment Centres, Sambhali Trust supports women not only as learners or artisans, but as individuals with strength, dignity and the ability to shape a better future for themselves and their families.
