Empowering Marginalized Women, Girls, and LGBTQ+ Individuals in Rajasthan

In the vibrant yet challenging landscapes of Rajasthan, where social norms and economic barriers often hinder the dreams of women, girls, and LGBTQ+ individuals, Sambhali Trust, with support from the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), has launched a transformative initiative. Running from August 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026, the project aims to empower 300 marginalized individuals in Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, and the rural village of Setrawa through education, vocational training, health services, emergency support, and rights-based advocacy.

Safe Spaces for Learning, Healing, and Growth

Designed with inputs from local women, girls, and LGBTQ+ individuals, the project prioritizes marginalized communities, including Dalit, Muslim, tribal, and rural women. Peer leaders, alumni, and women-led facilitators actively guide training, workshops, and advocacy events. Monthly health check-ups and digital/financial support further empower participants to access healthcare, government schemes, and income-generating opportunities, while fostering leadership and participation at every level.

The project has established 8 Empowerment Centres where participants receive daily academic and vocational training, digital literacy, life skills, and awareness workshops on gender rights, legal literacy, health, and LGBTQ+ inclusion. Counselling, legal aid, and health services complement skill-building, helping beneficiaries overcome social, economic, and cultural barriers while building confidence and self-reliance.

A Comprehensive, Inclusive Approach

Impact and Sustainability

By February 2026, 300 direct beneficiaries will gain literacy, vocational, and digital skills, while thousands more will be reached through public awareness campaigns, community events, and advocacy initiatives. Self-Help Groups, peer mentoring, and connections to Sambhali’s social enterprises will ensure ongoing skill-building, income generation, and community-led advocacy. Through this initiative, Sambhali Trust demonstrates that when marginalized women, girls, and LGBTQ+ individuals are supported, entire communities flourish.
